This is Not The Turkana You See on TV
Most people think they know Turkana, but what they see on TV only tells half the story. The media often focuses on the struggle—the drought, the poverty, the heat. But as someone who lives here, I can tell you Turkana is more than a desert. It's a place of strength, tradition, and surprising joy.
Every day, I witness the beauty in small things: children creating toys from plastic bottles, women gathering with laughter around wells, and elders telling stories that carry generations of wisdom. Our lives may seem simple, but they are full of meaning, connection, and pride.
The outside world misses the heart of Turkana. We are a people with strong roots and deep values. We’ve survived not because we are desperate, but because we are resilient.
